For those of you who've built a few with adi tops, who really has the best stuff on a consistent basis?

"I also have a few sets of bear claw Adi..."

Hi John....
Could you comment on bearclaw in Adirondack?

How often do you see it in the cambium when selecting logs?

Do you think it is in some parts of the Adi range and not others?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm a real bearclaw hound, and never
ran into a nicely figured bearclaw Adi log, whether good splitting or not...

I was mostly looking at logs in the NY Adirondacks, Vermont, and Maine...

Thanks!

My supplier has been cutting logs for over 10 years and it was the first time he saw it. He had about 20 sets. I got most and Dace nichols of NY got some. They bearclaw is different than sitka in that it is so much more finer but often looks like doves.
Bear claw is actually caused by some kind of damgage to the try as I am told. Not sure all I know is it is very rare.
I will try and get a pic in here tomorrow

Well, it really varies in Sitka as well, from tiny dimples to 12" long lightning
bolts...

I'd bet on genetics, but who knows?
Another lovely mystery...

John, do you have a list anywhere that shows what all products you sell? I can't find many different items on the web site, unless I just don't know where to look

I'd also bet on genetics... may bear claws be an expression of aborted branches running under the bark?

Lovely pics, ggdelazzer!

Illustrates very nicely why we call it "bearclaw"...
